The Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16v, introduced in 1989, is one of the most celebrated evolutions of the legendary Delta family, a dominant force in the World Rally Championship. Developed to maintain Lancia’s supremacy in Group A, the 16v was created to take on increasingly competitive rivals like the Toyota Celica GT-Four.
Compared to the earlier 8v version, the Delta 16v featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a 16-valve head, producing around 200 hp in the road version and over 300 hp in its rally trim. Performance was immediately impressive, with better power delivery and quicker throttle response.
The 16v made its debut at the 1989 Sanremo Rally and won instantly, confirming the strength of the design. Permanent all-wheel drive, revised suspension, and a wider track made the car even more effective on all types of terrain.
The Delta HF Integrale 16v helped secure Lancia’s fifth consecutive Constructors’ Championship title in 1989, continuing an unmatched streak of success. Today, it remains beloved by enthusiasts and collectors for its charisma, technical prowess, and its starring role in one of rallying’s golden eras.
